To apply to be a coder, please send an email to eep_eep_moo@yahoo.com with the following information:
1) Full Name
2) Sourceforge account name (http://www.sourceforge.net/, it's free,
so sign up now)
3) A brief piece of sample code that you have written
demonstrating knowledge of C++ classes using Kernighan & Ritchie coding
style (indent -kr <filename> will automatically do it for you from a shell
prompt. I won't expect you to memorize it, I didn't).
Characteristics expected of a coder:
1) Quick to
learn
2) Knowledge of C++ classes w/Inheritance and Templates.
3)
Knowledge of a standard bash shell.
4) Able to at least make progress on any
task given to you. I don't expect you to devote your life to this, but
having a task just sit there for months on end slows everybody down.
5) Rules expected for all
positions.
Bonus characteristics of a coder (but not expected):
1)
Knowledge of the CVS file checkout system
2) Previous experience working with
more than one code base of a MUD (for keeping an open mind).
3) Your own bash
shell to work from. Since we are using CVS and we are still in the
planning/pre-alpha stage, there is no need for a set server for everyone to
program from. This may seem unorthodox for all you Merc/Diku programmers
out there, but this is the way it works in the real programming
world.
1) Have knowledge of the GNU General Public Licence (http://www.gnu.org/licences/gpl.html)
2)
Be 18 years of age or have a high school or equivalent diploma. Unless I
know you personally, this sticks. No exceptions, so don't even bother
e-mailing me to debate it.
3) At *least* 10 minutes a day of free time to
participate in online message board discussions.
4) Be mild mannered.
We're not going to deal with assholes, period (this is the main reason you must
be 18, too many bad experiences in the past with the younger folk).
5) Must
speak good English (I'll be able to tell this right away from your
email)
